The late King Mohammed V, the grandfather of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, on the cover of the Time Magazine published on Apr 22, 1957.

Rabat, October 3, 2006 – HRH Prince Moulay Rachid marks 47th dead anniversary of his grandfather King Mohammed V.

The late King Mohammed V was an exceptional man who, had the courage to stood up for Moroccan people. The late HM King Mohammed V is very often refer as the Father of Independent Morocco.

The tolerance was one of the strongest traits of the late King Mohammed V. The German invasion of France in 1940 also had consequences for the French colonies. Morocco had been a “French protectorate” since 1912, with HM King Mohammed V at its head. The decree of the French Vichy government of 30 October 1940 forbidding Jews to hold public offices also applied to Morocco. Morocco had always had a fairly large Jewish community, traditionally protected by the king. So the King Mohammed V refused to carry out these and measured with the words: "There are no Jews in Morocco, only Moroccan subjects."
