HRH Crown Prince Moulay Rachid encourages girls into golf

Rabat, May 27, 2008 – His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay Rachid pledged to take time out of his hectic schedules to provide endowment and promote the sport of golf to Moroccan youth, especially girls.

Golf, like many sports in Arab countries struggles to encourage large numbers of girls to take part.

Under the leadership of Crown Prince Moulay Rachid, Morocco has developed strong plan to attract more girls into the game and much of this work is beginning bear fruit.

Royal Golf Academy, an initiative of Crown Prince Moulay Rachid, was formed in 2004 to help young from low-income households, is greatly supporting the process to coach girls at much earlier development stages and enhance some of the existing work going on.

The Royal Golf Academy is part of Crown Prince Moulay Rachid's highly successful Junior Golf Development Programme, which is committed to helping young people through golf with sporting and social development.

Thanks to the untiring efforts of Crown Prince Moulay Rachid to advocate golf opportunities for the girls and women, the Hassan 2 Golf Association carries out annual women golf tournament of the Lalla Meryem Cup, which is the first internationally known women’s golf tournament organized in the Arab world, and is also only Arab tournament that includes its national women golfers.
